Prez endorses ordinance, clears way for appointments in constitutional bodies

KATHMANDU, March 14: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has certified the ordinance related to formation of constitutional council as per the Article 88(1) of the Interim Constitution, 2007 amending the Constitutional Council Work Duties and Rights Procedure Act.



With the approval of the ordinance, it has cleared the way for the appointment at the different constitutional bodies including in the Election Commission which which has been lying vacant for long.[break]



As per the new provision in the ordinance, there will be no need for parliamentary hearing to make appointments in the constitutional bodies.

Earlier, appointments in the various constitutional bodies could not be made due dissolution of constituent Assembly as it used to carry out the mandatory hearing prior to appointment.



A Cabinet meeting of Khil Raj Regmi-led Interim Election government on Friday had decided to recommend an ordinance to President Ram Baran Yadav for the endorsement.
