President meets Bhattarai

KATHMANDU, Oct 18: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav met with former prime minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai at the latter´s residence in Lalitpur on Sunday morning. The two exchanged greetings on the occasion of the Tihar festival. While Dr Yadav inquired about Bhattarai´s health condition, the former prime minister wished the President a "successful tenure," according to the president´s office.



The president also discussed on the country’s current political situation and constitution writing process with the only living founding member of the Nepali Congress. [break]



After the meeting, Dr Yadav told journalists that the major political parties must work towards taking the peace process to its logical conclusion. He added that there was no alternative to consensus and cooperation to end the deadlock, establish lasting peace in the country, and write a new constitution on time. He also wished success to all on the occasion of Depawali.



During the meeting with the president, Bhattarai said that the constitution could not be written on time without consensus and cooperation and expressed doubts that the country could plunge into a political crisis.
