KATHMANDU, June 11: Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Chairperson of the Nepal Socialist Party (Naya Shakti), visited Mohan Vaidya, General Secretary of the Revolutionary Communist Party, who is undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. On Wednesday, Bhattarai met Vaidya, his former comrade from the armed conflict era.
When the then CPN (Maoist) launched the armed insurgency in 1996, Vaidya and Dr Bhattarai were considered the two key figures after party supremo Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Dr Bhattarai was known as the public “face” of the movement, while Vaidya was regarded as the ideological architect of the party’s political line.
Sitar maestro Vaidya no more

In recent years, after the Maoists joined the peace process, both Vaidya and Dr Bhattarai have taken different political paths. Currently, neither of them is affiliated with the Dahal-led Maoist Center.
While Vaidya has been undergoing treatment in the ICU of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for the past two weeks, Dahal has not visited him at the hospital so far. Bhattarai, however, paid a visit during Baidya’s hospitalization.
