President grants clemency to Arun Chaudhary, will be released tomorrow

KATHMANDU, Feb 18: Arun Kumar Chaudhary, a member of the House of Representatives and a whip of Nagarik Unmukti Party will be released from jail tomorrow.

The imprisonment of Chaudhary, who is in Kailali prison, has been waived by President on the occasion of Democracy Day. The Office of the President published a statement on Friday releasing the imprisonment of 14 other people in Kailali prison along with lawmaker Chaudhary.

Chaudhary, a member of the House of Representatives and a civil rights activist, was arrested and presented to the District Court in Kailali on February 3. He was found guilty by the District Court, Kailali, in the arson case nine years ago.

On August 19, 2010, Mahadev Bajgain filed a case against Pasuram Chaudhary and Bir Bahadur Chaudhary, along with MP Arun Chaudhar at the Kailali District Court for torching his tractor on August 18, 2009.

On April 13, 2013, the Kailali District Court sentenced three people, Parshuram Chaudhary and Bir Bahadur Chaudhary, including MP Arun Kumar Chaudhary, to six months in prison.
