Pragya Kunja School partners with Israeli Embassy in ‘CELEBRATING EARTH DAY- EVERYDAY’

KATHMANDU. Jan 5: Kathmandu Pragya Kunja School in partnership with the Israeli embassy in Kathmandu organized an event on Monday to hand over collected used batteries to Doko Recycles to contribute to environmental pollution mitigation measures through an important message of responsibility for an individual step toward a cleaner environment.

The Embassy of Israel initiated an Environment Conservation Activity under the slogan, “Stop Pollution: Used Batteries Collection” in cooperation with schools in Kathmandu. With shared commitments to contribute to environmental pollution mitigation measures. Kathmandu Pragya Kunja school with the collaboration of Israeli Embassy established Battery Collection Bins in the school and became the first school of Kathmandu to handover the first-phase collection and handover of collected used batteries (alkaline batteries, coin cell batteries and other non-rechargeable batteries), brought it to the school by students and teachers.

Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Minister for Forests and Environment, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, and stressed the roles of schools for environmental action and thus promoting responsible citizenry among the youths and learners.

On the occasion, Hanan Goder, ambassador of Israel to Nepal, said, “Our planet is one. Natural treasures of Nepal are too important for us to neglect. Israel is proud to be a part of this environmental initiative.”

The initiative is a gesture to be aware of batteries that contain a number of heavy metals and toxic chemicals and disposing them in the same manner as we dispose of regular household waste. It can create serious concerns over soil contamination, water pollution, air pollution and hence, affecting human lives and our planet.

Similarly, Principal Sunita Poudel opined that the school is hopeful to spread a message that we need to dispose of waste in a proper manner and it is a responsibility of each individual to take care of our natural world for a better today and tomorrow.
