"The power cut has been increased to 12 hours from 10 hours per week given the shifting of the peaking hour to 6:40 pm from 7:49 pm," Sher Singh Bhat, systems operation director at Nepal Electricity Authority, told myrepublica.com.
Consumers resort to electricity for cooking and other power-consuming gadgets earlier with the shortening of daytime. "If people were earlier turning on their lights at 6 p.m., they now start the same by 5 p.m., thereby bringing forward the peak demand hours," Bhat explained.
Also, people will not have any loadshedding off-day for the next four days starting Saturday. "We have to remove the off-days due to shutdown of the 70 MW Middle Marsyangdi Hydroelectric Project for four days from Saturday," Bhat said. The second largest project in the country will be closed for tunnel inspection.
Bhat further said that after the resumption of power generation from Middle Marsyangdi, loadshedding hours may remain 12 hours. "We may continue the 12 hours schedule as we cannot reschedule the power cut hours every week," he said.
