KATHMANDU, July 1: A day after the prime minister resigned from his office and the president setting a week´s deadline to form consensus government, political parties have busied themselves in a series of meetings, our correspondent Kosh Raj Koirala reported.
The Standing Committee of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) formed a three-member talks committee led by its chairman, Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The two other members are are vice-chairmen Mohan Baidya and Dr Baburam Bhattarai.
The committee will hold talks with other parties toward the formation of a Maoist-led consensus, or a majority, government.
The Standing Committee of CPN-UML is scheduled to begin its talks at noon at the party headquarters in Balkhu. Another meeting of 22 parties is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. at Singha Durbar.
Meanwhile, the Central Working Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress which was scheduled for Thursday has been postponed for Friday.
