Local Ram Chalitra Mahato had given Unity membership to her with false promises such as a bonus of Rs 20,000 in every six month and health insurance.
“However, I haven´t received any bonus so far nor have I benefited from Unity´s scheme,” said Bina who became member in last September.
The story of Badri Khatwe of the same ward is more heart rendering. “ I sold even a TV set to complement the deficit after I borrowed Rs 8000 from money lender at monthly interest rate of 3 percent to get Unity´s membership. I will be completely ruined if I my money is not refunded,” said Khatwe.
Not only Mahato and Khatwe, over 50 poor individuals have been duped by Unity in Bastipur-4 which has houses around 200 poor families. Unity had allured the poor people with the promise of handsome return of the membership fee they paid.
Republica correspondent in Palpa Tek Narayan Bhattarai said local administration has sealed Unity hospital in Syangja and seized all equipment of the hospital.
