Polls possible if Maoist give up authoritarian mindset: Nepal

SYANGJA, Feb 3: Senior leader of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal has said election was possible if the ruling UCPN-Maoist abandoned the aim of capturing state authority.



Speaking at a programme organized on the concluding day of the Fourth Rolwaling Festival here on Sunday, leader Nepal accused the ruling Maoist party of spoiling the atmosphere for election with its strategy to capture state authority.[break]



"Resolution to present crisis is election," he said, adding, "when holding election, the elections to the parliament, Constituent Assembly and local bodies should be held together."



Similarly, he said that the extremism of the Maoist party was culpable for deepening political crisis.



He urged the political parties, civil society, businessmen, journalists and women to get together to protest against the Maoists´ authoritarianism.



On the occasion, the central member of the Nepali Congress Gagan Thapa said until the rule of law was implemented, Nepal would not see any sector flourish.



Leader Nepal warned that the country would not be successful to institutionalize the republic if the present crisis persists.
