ITAHARI, Feb 21: Senior leader of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) Ram Chandra Poudel on Sunday said that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is headed toward an authoritarian path and has the backing of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba for that.
Speaking at a press conference in Itahari, Poudel said that Deuba is backing the unconstitutional and undemocratic move of Prime Minister Oli.

"Nepali constitution, democracy and republicanism is now in peril after Deuba extended support to PM Oli's unconstitutional and undemocratic moves," the NC leader said adding that the prime minister is becoming more authoritarian after Deuba's backing.
He stated that NC's official position is that the dissolution of parliament by the prime minister is unconstitutional. "Now, the NC's responsibility is to save the constitution so all the party cadres should firmly stand against the dissolution of parliament. This is the official line of the party," he said.
Poudel said that Deuba has a tacit support to the "unconstitutional" political appointments made by the Oli-led government.
