DOLPA, June 24: A policeman assigned for providing security to the yarsa pickers has died at Saldang VDC in upper Dolpa. He is police constable Rajendra Budha of Dang who was posted at the District Police Office, Dolpa.
Budha, who was in the remote highlands of the VDC, five days' trek from the district headquarters, all of a sudden suffered from a paralyzed right foot and left hand. He died on Wednesday while being carried to the district headquarters for treatment, police stated.
Hordes of people go up the highlands to collect the valuable caterpillar fungus known as yarsagumba or yarsa in short in this season.
There are also reports of looting of the collected yarsa by some unscrupulous people. Sometimes quarrels also break out among the yarsa pickers.
The local administration therefore mobilizes police personnel for the security of the yarsa pickers. RSS
