Over 100 individuals recommended as defendants
KATHMANDU, May 23: The police have submitted the investigation report on the Tinkune incident that occurred during the pro-monarchy protest on March 28 to the District Government Attorney’s Office (DGAO) in Kathmandu.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Apil Raj Bohara, spokesperson of the Kathmandu District Police Office, said that the investigation report has been dispatched to the DGAO.

The police have recommended filing charges with the government attorney under four offenses: criminal offense of public unrest, crimes against the state, organized crime, and attempted and actual homicide. The investigation report has recommended naming over 100 individuals as defendants.
The District Police Range Kathmandu began investigating the incident on the very day it occurred. The police also arrested more than 170 individuals involved in the event, of whom 53 remain in police custody while the rest have been released on bail and required to report regularly.
Although the royalists had promised a peaceful protest on March 28, the demonstration turned violent. The incident resulted in the deaths of two people, including a journalist, and dozens of police officers and protesters were injured. There was damage and arson at commercial and industrial homes, party offices, and looting at the Bhat-Bhateni Supermarket in Koteshwor.
The ruling and opposition parties have expressed opposing views regarding the royalists’ protest.
The royalists are preparing for another protest on May 29. The government, having witnessed the violent demonstration at Tinkune, has announced that it is maintaining heightened vigilance.
