KATHMANDU, March 2: Police resorted to opening fire on Sunday in Tokha on the northern outskirts of Kathmandu to arrest the absconding Indian national Guddu Patel who is accused of murder. Police have reported that their team which was mobilized to arrest Patel were forced to open fire after he attempted to evade the police during the arrest. Patel was injured in the incident.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office (KVCIO), Patel is the shooter involved in the murder of Lal Mohammad, who was shot dead in Jorpati two-and-a-half years ago.

Spokesperson for the KVCIO Superintendent of Police Kaji Kumar Acharya informed Republica that the police fired Patel in the leg when he tried to flee during the arrest. “He is an Indian shooter involved in the murder of Lal Mohammad and had been absconding for a long time,” he said, “Police have already arrested others involved in the murder.”
Mohammad was shot dead at Gothatar in Bhaktapur on September 19, 2022, by two shooters while he was returning from Jorpati with plastic used for packing clothes.
Police have been continuously attempting to arrest Patel after he was identified as the main accused in the case. Police have taken Patel to a hospital for treatment and further investigation is underway.
