With the coordination of the District Police Office, the mothers' groups are campaigning against violence against women, and child/early marriage. They are campaigning together in view of the growing cases of rapes.Chairwoman of the Inter-party Women Network of Jajarkot, Ram Chhaya Shahi, said the drive was launched to raise public aware in every village. Even the school children and other stakeholders were urged for help in the campaign.
The District Police is going to organize a three-month special awareness programme taking help of VDC secretaries and the health workers.
Deputy Superintendent of Police from the district, Dinesh Raj Mainali, said the campaign would be joined by the local women, media persons, leaders of different political parties and representatives from government bodies.
The women would be made aware how they could prevent such social ills as rape, child marriage, and other domestic violence, he added.
With fear and lack of awareness, many women are forced to conceal the torture and rapes in the villages, but the campaign would help them come open and mete out punishment to the culprits, said Amba Saha, Chairwoman of the Mothers' Group, Khalanga. RSS
