The campaign has been enforced in various districts in Western Nepal including Banke, Dang, Surkhet, Rupandehi and Kailali among others. Those found venturing without face masks will face action as per Infectious Disease Act 2020, according to Police.

As part of the campaign, police have launched a door to door campaign requesting people to wear face masks and adopt other precautionary measures against COVID-19.

Police personnel have been deployed in the area to monitor the campaign in various check posts, according to Information Officer at District Police Office of Banke, Subash Khadka.

In recent weeks, western Nepal has been largely hit by the second wave of COVID-19. Most of the districts in the region share an open border with neighboring country, India, which is recording more than 200,000 new cases of COVID-19 daily.
