Fourteen year old KC was rushed to B&B Hospital in Lalitpur that later referred the patient to TU Teaching Hospital. X-ray and other tests showed that the boy was hit by at least six to nine rubber bullets, said officials at the emergency ward of B&B Hospital. Then he was referred to the Teaching Hospital for surgery, the officials told myrepublica.com.
Doctors at the emergency ward in the Teaching Hospital said the boy is undergoing treatment.
Situation in Chapagaun, a Kathmandu Valley suburb, remained tense on Saturday as well after scores of demonstrators clashed with police demanding that police publicly punish the two youths, who are in police detention.
Locals at Chhampi area in Lalitpur on Friday held two strangers visiting their locality and severely beat them up, alleging that the youths were about to kidnap local children, before handing them to police.
However the two youths have denied the allegations.
Superintendent of Police Kedar Man Singh Bhandari, chief of the Metropolitan Police Range Office, Lalitpur, said that police had to fire teargas shells and rubber bullets after about 100 to 150 demonstrators attacked policemen with local weapons including bottles, khukuris, khudas and other sharp weapons. Around 22 rounds of rubber bullets and equal number of teargas shells were fired at the protestors to disperse the mob, according to SP Bhandari.
He said police could do nothing as it was not practically possible to address the irate protestors´ demand of take the youths back to the village and take action against them in public.
Police brought the situation under control in the evening on Saturday. "Now it is under control. But, you don´t know what happens. Given the nature of protests here situation can take a nasty turn any time," Bhandari said.
District Administration Office Lalitpur had to clamp curfew beginning 6:30 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. on Saturday.
He said police is investigating the two youths.
