Police demands advanced technology to fight crime

KATHMANDU, Nov 22: Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Additional Inspector General of Police Navaraj Dhakal said Kathmandu Metropolitan Police (KMP) is in need of advanced tools and technology tools to fight organized crime and the government´s support is necessary.



He was speaking in Kathmandu Thursday on the seventh anniversary function of KMP, the primary law enforcement agency for Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts. [break]



Dhakal told Republica that his office has been working to enhance technology based ethical and quality policing. He said, "We are in great need of a data integration system in the Nepal Police and this has been creating lapses in curbing crimes systematically."



"Until the police have no access to integrated data on various sectors, police will not be able to do their job effectively."



He said the mission of KMP is to prevent crime and avert the fear of crime in order to build safe neighborhoods throughout the Kathmandu Valley. "Though we have been given semi-judicial authority, we do not have proper environment to exercise it due to the negligence of the stakeholders."
