DANG, Feb 16: A police constable of the Area Police Office (APO), Phulbari, in Dang district has been accused of raping a woman on Thursday.

The district police so far has not made public the name of the constable. As per the complaint filed by the victim's father-in-law, the constable entered his house and raped his daughter-in law when other members were not around. The victim's husband is in India for the past five months in course of employment.

The old man further informed Republica that the constable came to their home at around 10 pm asking for water. Apparently, he asked the victim to open the door saying he has an important work. He even asked her about her husband. "After he introduced himself as a policeman, my daughter-in-law opened the door and offered him water," said the victim's father-in-law, adding, "Taking advantage of our absence, he closed the door and raped her."

The victim has stated that the constable tried to hit her with a wooden stick when she tried to escape. "I begged with him to leave me and even touched his feet so that he would spare me but he didn't," the victim's father-in-law quoted her as saying. Reportedly, he closed her mouth with his hand and raped her.

The victim has stated that the culprit even threatened to kill her four-year-old son if she shared the incident to anyone. As soon as the constable went out of her home, the victim called her relatives and informed them about the horrible experience. Later, villagers gathered and reached the APO for filing a complaint.
