Police bust a racket involved in making counterfeit notes in Sarlahi

RAUTAHAT, April 9: A gang involved in making counterfeit notes is found active in Sarlahi amid suspicion that the business of counterfeit Nepali rupees was flourishing in the southern parts of the country.

RAUTAHAT, April 9: A gang involved in making counterfeit notes is found active in Sarlahi amid suspicion that the business of counterfeit Nepali rupees was flourishing in the southern parts of the country. 


Police have arrested nine people and a bundle of paper which is used to make rupees in the past three months following increased vigilance of police. 


The police raided the house of Bibek Kurmi of Balara municipality of Sarlahi- 6 Gadahia village based on the information that counterfeit notes were being made by operating a machine. Kurmi, the owner of the house, as well as four others are currently on the run.

District Police Office, Sarlahi, said that they are searching for all the five who are on the run.


Earlier, Ram Prasad Yadav of Balra Napa-5 Arnaha Tole was arrested with counterfeit Nepali rupees. On Thursday evening, Yadav was arrested by a joint team of Provincial Police Office in Janakpur and a separate team of police personnel from Barathahawa Municipality along with Rs 268,000 fake Nepali currency near the canal of Bagmati irrigation project located in Barhathwa municipality-17. 


In the course of checkings, millions of rupees worth of fake notes of Nepali currency notes were recovered.


Police have so far arrested nine people including Ram Pravesh Ram, Suban Pariyar, Gopal Khanal for dealing in fake Nepali currency. Recently, the police have seized Rs 336,000 worth of fake currency and also seized 237 bundles of paper and a paper cutting machine.


Likewise, vehicles with Indian number plates used for fake currency transactions have also been seized. After assuming the command of District Police Office, Sarlahi, SP Nareshraj Subedi has been active in drug control, marijuana cultivation and fake Nepali currency transactions. 


Although the Sarlahi police, which has repeatedly seized fake currency notes worth millions of rupees, failed to seize the machines that printed the fake notes, they have succeeded in busting the racket involved in producing and distributing fake currency notes.


Chief of District Police Office, Sarlahi, SP Subedi said that gangs producing fake notes are active in Sarlahi. He expressed confidence that the entire racket will be exposed in the near future.
