Police arrest two yellow metal smugglers, confiscate 149 grams gold

KATHMANDU, Nov 30: Police have arrested two individuals including the owner of a gold shop on the charge of yellow metal smuggling from Kathmandu on Sunday.

KATHMANDU, Nov 30: Police have arrested two individuals including the owner of a gold shop on the charge of yellow metal smuggling from Kathmandu on Sunday.


The arrested have been identified as Kumar Century, 32, a resident of Chhathar Rural Municipality-4 in Terhathum district, operating Sky Jewelers in Koteshwor, and Ganga Bahadur Magar, 32, a resident of Doramba Rural Municipality-4 in Ramechhap district.

According to police, Ganga Bahadur was showing suspicious behavior, and during a security check police confiscated Rs 1.1 million from his possession. “Further investigation showed that Ganga Bahadur had sold smuggled gold to Century,” said police.


Police then confiscated 149.95 grams of gold from the shop of Century.


The arrested have been sent to the Pulchowk-based Revenue Investigation Department for further investigation into the case.
