In the semifinals held in Basantapur, Tehrathum, APF and Police both registered comfortable wins. APF defeated departmental rival Nepal Army Club in straight sets in the first semifinal. APF won the match 25-19, 25-22, 25-19. The win also avenged the defeat suffered by APF in the Indo-Nepal Volleyball Tournament held a few weeks ago in Mahendranagar. APF had earlier advanced to the semifinals as the winner of group stage. Milan Malla of APF was declared the man-of-the-match.[break]
Following his side´s comfortable win, APF coach Deependra Bista opined that his side was favorite to win the title. Army coach Prakash Thapaliya pointed out that failure to defend the opponent´s spike was the main reason for defeat.
In another semifinal, Nepal Police Club ousted Central Region 25-16, 25-15, 25-14. Police played without some of its key players. Kul Bahadur Thapa of Police was awarded the man-of-the-match.
The final of the event will be played at Myanglung, the district headquarters of Tehrathum, on Thursday. The winner will bag a purse of Rs 50,000 along with the running shield.
