Poacher arrested from Banke National Park

NEPALGUNJ, July 19: A poacher has been arrested red-handed from the Banke National Park. 

Mohan Tharu, 44, was arrested from the Mahadeva Forest under Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality-9 at around midnight on Wednesday. 

Chief Conservation Officer of Kohalpur Municipality, Manoj Kumar Shah, said Tharu, a resident of Simiri, Kohalpur Municipality-3, was arrested with the carcass of a male Chital deer, a loaded gun, and two rounds of bullets. 

The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Shah added that due to dubious poaching activities in the national park, the Ranbam Battalion and park officials were jointly deployed to patrol around the park. 

Chief Conservation Officer Shah said Tharu was caught red-handed in the Mahadeva Forest during patrolling. 

According to the park office, a case will be filed against Tharu under the National Parks Act- 2029 BS and for arms possession.
