KATHMANDU, July 12: In a bid to ensure effective service delivery, the Prime Minister´s Office (PMO) has come up with novel idea to address people´s complaints through Quick Response Mechanism and ease their problems at the earliest.

Only recently, the PMO has begun to seek clarifications from concerned government offices and employees over alleged irregularities, misappropriation or misconduct based on public complaints and media reports. [break]

According to PMO Secretary Lila Mani Paudyal, they closely monitor the media reports and public complaints everyday and instantly initiate actions. The PMO focuses mainly on complaints over misappropriation, delay in service delivery or misconduct in government offices.

"We read newspapers and watch TV channels and instantly approach concerned offices to find out the truth of the matter," said Paudyal, adding that necessary actions are taken if the officials are found to be at fault.

"Based on the gravity of the complaints, we ask the concerned ministry or department to immediately investigate into the matter and furnish clarification to the PMO," he added.

According to Paudyal, PMO has already asked some government offices to furnish clarifications over malpractices exposed by the media.

Only recently, the PMO asked the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works to furnish details about the construction modality and budget used for the construction of a bridge in Bara. The bridge was damaged just three years after its construction.

"Our objective is to form a responsive government, which addresses people´s complaint without any delay," Paudyal said.

The PMO officials said they have also sought clarifications from some ministries and officials over embezzlement in the "program for people´s residence".

The PMO officials also said they have directed Kakarbhitta immigration officials to investigate into the misconduct by some officials there to Daniel Collins, a foreigner, based on the latter´s complaint published in Republica.
