PM, Tharu lawmakers discuss Tikapur incident

KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and the Constituent Assembly members from the Tharu community have discussed the incident of violence that took place in Tikapur on Monday and the ongoing agitation of the Tharuhat Tharuwan Joint Struggle Committee.

The discussions held at the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar focused on the Tikapur incident and the developments since that incident, among other issues, said Committee spokesman and CA member Aman Lal Modi.


He said they drew the Prime Minister’s attention to the today’s incident in which the house of one Tharu CA member has been torched even when curfew is in place, adding that they have demanded immediately stopping such activities.

Modi stated that the Struggle Committee has consistently held peaceful agitation sticking to its agenda and demanded addressing it by political means.

He described Monday’s incident as saddening and reiterated they were always in favor of peaceful movement. RSS
