"It will look odd if the prime minister stays on after failing to accomplish the specified task," Thapa said, referring to PM Bhattarai´s earlier proclamation that he would step down if no remarkable progress is achieved in the stalled peace process in 45 days after assuming office.[break]
Speaking to the media in Butwal on Saturday, Thapa said the faction led by party Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya has decided to intensify the campaign for scrapping the four-point pact reached with Madhes-based parties as the deal, he said, has shamed all Nepalis.
When asked about the action the party establishment is likely to take against the Baidya faction for bringing internal dispute in public, Thapa stated it is not the faction but those who have infringed on the party´s working procedures, norms and values should actually be punished.
"We have not violated any party decision. It´s just that we hit the streets to inform the public about the party decision taken through due procedures," Thapa added.
We are just objecting monopoly within the party, he said. Thapa said that party´s upcoming central committee meeting would resolve contentious issues within the Maoist party.
