KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Prime Minister KP Oli on Tuesday asked the nation to stand behind him as he vowed to steer the nation toward prosperity and development. “Now that Nepal has embarked on a new system as a federal democratic republic, our focus should be on guiding the country toward prosperity and development,” Oli said at a function organized to mark the 69th Democracy Day.

Nepal, Oli said, was on the path of becoming a functional democracy. He said that his government was striving for economic and social transformation by fighting against poverty, unemployment, backwardness, discrimination and lack of development.

Oli said that the government was working to unveil friendly policies to bring in foreign investors eager to work together in Nepal's development.

“We are holding an investment conference in April that will be attended by investors at home and abroad,” said Oli, stressing on need of a complete overhaul in social and economic sector to achieve his vision of 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali'.

PM asked not to take democracy as for granted, adding generations of common Nepalis had contributed in achieving democratic ideals.

Oli said that the government was on path to upgrade Nepal from the status of least developed country to the status of developed country by 2022 and achieving the sustainable development goals by 2030.
