KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Prime Minister K P Oli-led faction of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has concluded that their faction had the overwhelming support of people at the grass-root level.

In an informal discussion held among the Standing Committee members in Baluwatar on Thursday afternoon, the Oli-led faction of the NCP concluded that their faction was able to garner huge support of ordinary people in the mass gatherings held recently in different parts of the country. The Standing Committee members of the Oli-led faction had briefed about the party’s status at the local level during the meeting.

On the occasion, former House Speaker Subash Nembang had briefed the Standing Committee members about the ongoing legal battle to secure recognition as the official NCP and the prospect of the court’s verdict on the case related to the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).

Nembang had argued that the Election Commission (EC) cannot grant recognition to the Dahal-Nepal faction as the official NCP as the party’s documents are already prepared in such a way that they recognize the Oli-led NCP as the official party.

After listening to the informal briefings of the party’s standing committee members, Prime Minister Oli had directed the party’s leaders to expedite the election campaign across the country without any hesitations. While maintaining that the elections will be held on the scheduled dates, Oli also pointed out the need to go to villages to bring election environment in the favor of the party.

According to Standing Committee members participating in the meeting, the Oli-led NCP will now hold meetings and gatherings at the village level to create a conducive environment for the election. The faction already held a mass gathering in various provinces including in Sudur Pashchim, Bagmati Province, and Province 2.
