PM Koirala addresses Jakarta Summit

JAKARTA (Indonesia), April 22: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has addressed the Asian-African Summit being held at Indonesia's capital Jakarta on Wednesday.



The summit started at 9 am according to local time. As many as 105 states are taking part in the summit.

A Nepalese delegation led by Prime Minister Koirala is participating in the conference.


The much-awaited event has been inaugurated by the president of Indonesia, host country, Joko Widodo today. In the summit, heads of government and state from as many as 26 countries are taking part. In the two-day summit 15 observer countries and 17 international organizations are participating.


Prime Minister Koirala delivered his speech for five minutes in the event which is set to run in three sessions, informed Officiating Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi.


Koirala is also scheduled to co-chair the evening session today.

Prime Minister Koirala will also attend a commemorative event that will be organized on April 24 in Bandung on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of 1955 Asian-African Conference and the 10th Anniversary of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership. Both the Summit and the commemorative event are being held under the theme of "Strengthening South-South Cooperation to promote World Peace and Prosperity".
