PM hails NA's contribution in UN peacekeeping

KATHMANDU, Sept 20: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal participated in the Commissioning Parade of the Officer Cadet Course-50 and Junior Commission Officers and Non-Commission Officer Cadet Course-39 at the Nepalese Military Academy (NMA), Kharipati, Sunday, at the invitation of Brigadier General Nara Bahadur Kandel, the Commandant of the NMA. On the occasion, he presented the pips for the ranks of second lieutenants. [break]







The PM also gave away the Sword of Honor to Second Lieutenants Dhruba Babu Karki and Mahesh Kumar Dangol of the Serial Number 50 and 39 respectively for standing first among the trainees. He also inspected the parade of the cadets, according to a Nepal Army statement.



Speaking at the passing out parade ceremony, the PM hailed the contribution of the Nepal Army (NA) personnel to various United Nations peacekeeping missions around the world. He said, "Various countries in the world have recognized the contribution made by our national Army for its role in maintaining world peace," adding, "It is a matter of pride that I have been invited to attend the meeting of the top 10 peacekeeping contributing countries by US President Barrack Obama."







The meeting has been scheduled on the sidelines of the upcoming UN General Assembly. Stating that the NA is a "multi-ethnic" body, the PM said that NA is an institution where men and women from all communities of Nepal work together.



Stating that NA has been working under the government as a professional organization, the PM said, "The national Army has always upheld the norms of civilian supremacy." He also praised the NA´s role in nature conservation, disaster management, and development works. "Army should be alert and cautious in respecting the international humanitarian law and human rights."







Pointing at insufficient training facilities provided to the NA men, he said that the government will pay attention to fulfilling the training needs of the institution.



Also present during the occasion were Defense Minister, CoAS, heads of various diplomatic missions, and other high-ranking officers of all the security agencies.
