PM Dahal to tour earthquake-affected areas

KATHMANDU, Nov 4: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, along with Energy Minister Shakti Basnet and Maoist leader Janardan Sharma, has arrived in Jajarkot via a Nepali Army (NA) helicopter to support relief and rescue efforts in the earthquake-affected areas.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by a medical team from the NA, and all three major security agencies are actively involved in rescue operations. Security personnel from District Police Office Rukum West and District Police Office Jajarkot have been engaged in rescue work since the night.

Teams from the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police are working together to rescue people in the earthquake-affected areas. According to army spokesperson Krishna Prasad Bhandari, army teams have been conducting search and rescue operations since the previous night, with additional rescue teams being deployed. The medical team from the Nepali Army has also reached the scene alongside the Prime Minister.

The central spokesperson of Nepal Police, DIG Kuber Singh Kadayat, confirmed that security personnel from all three security agencies are actively participating in the rescue efforts. He mentioned that rescue operations have been ongoing since the night, and there is a possibility that the number of casualties may increase. The medical team of Nepal Police is also actively involved in providing assistance.

An Armed Police Force team of 35 people, under the leadership of Inspector Kabindra Khadka from Armed Police No. 32 Battalion Surkhet, has been dispatched to Jajarkot. Additionally, a medical team of four members, led by Dr Nischal Ghimire, with an ambulance, has been deployed to Jajarkot from Surkhet.

DSP Shailendra Thapa, Assistant Spokesperson of the Armed Police Force, mentioned that a Disaster Response System (DRS) container has been sent from Dang to West Rukum for disaster relief. Similarly, two containers have been dispatched to Jajarkot from Surkhet. A team of 21 people, under the supervision of an inspector, has been deployed from No. 29 Battalion Dang to West Rukum.

In West Rukum, a team of 11 individuals under an inspector's command has been deployed from Gulmi East Rukum. Another team of 25 people, under an inspector's leadership, has been dispatched to Jajarkot from 42 Reserve Battalion Banke. Additionally, a team of nine individuals (18 people) under the supervision of Dr Roshan Parajuli from Armed Police Force Hospital has reached Chaurjahari in West Rukum via an army sky truck, along with medical supplies. The NA has also mobilized units from nearby locations to aid in relief and rescue efforts.
