KATHMANDU, Jan 12: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s plan to reduce the size of his private and personal secretariat has gained momentum.

Prime Minister Dahal had earlier said that he would change the structure of his secretariat during his address to the nation on December 26 on the occasion of the first anniversary of his assumption of the office as the country’s chief executive.

According to Prime Minister's Press Adviser Govinda Acharya, half of the employees who have gone to work in the private secretariat from various ministries have returned to their respective ministries. "The decision to restructure the secretariat as a policy has been made by the Council of Ministers," he said, "So far, 10 of the 20 government employees who have worked in the private secretariat from various ministries have already returned and 8 from private secretariat have been relieved of their duties."

According to Acharya, Prime Minister Dahal has given clear instructions to conduct the necessary departure process for employees other than essential ones working in his private secretariat from January 15.

Prime Minister Dahal, who formed a seven-member secretariat upon assuming office last year, has now opted for significant staff reductions. "The Prime Minister has directed to prioritize and maintain a robust team to address urgent needs," he stated. "As per his guidance, only experts and experienced individuals in the relevant field will be retained, and additional recruitment will be considered if necessary," Acharya added.

In the case of the advisory secretariat, since the decision has been taken by the Council of Ministers, it is prepared to remove them only after discussion through the same process. For that, the Prime Minister needs to make a decision directly from the Council of Ministers.

In addition, Prime Minister Dahal himself has the authority to dissolve the Secretariat or they must resign.

Sources indicate that a total of 10 individuals, including personal branch officers and administrative assistants, have been returned to the government.

Chief Political Advisor Haribol Gajurel has already resigned from his post. The resignation given on December 6 was accepted after a month. 

Ramesh Prasad Guragain, along with Om Kumari Paudel and Sabitri Kumari Adhikari, has been relieved from duty at the PM’s secretariat.

According to Acharya, the staff of the personal secretariat assigned by the party to remain in the chairman's secretariat will retain their position. Santu Darai, Ramesh Malla and Ganga Dahal, who have been in PM Dahal's secretariat for a long time, will not be removed as the party has entrusted them with the responsibility.
