KATHMANDU, May 20: The parliament session that was continuously disrupted by the Maoist lawmakers ever since Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal stepped down on May 4 is set to resume on Thursday.

The agreement for the House resumption was reached at a meeting between the caretaker Prime Minister and Speaker Subas Nembang on Wednesday. "I am fully optimistic and confident that the House business will proceed ahead tomorrow (Thursday)," said Nembang. [break]

The Speaker, however, did not reveal on what condition the Maoist leaders became ready to resume the House session, which has already been disrupted for the eighth time in a row.

The parliament session was put off on Wednesday afternoon through a notice as political parties failed to reach consensus on resumption of the session. The Parliament Secretariat, in a notice, said the House will meet at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

PM likely to address

To resume the House meeting, caretaker Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is likely to address the parliament on Thursday, according to a source close to the Prime Minister. In his address, the PM will defend his decision to sack the Army Chief, the source said.

Then the Speaker will read out a President´s Office´s letter, informing about the resignation of the Prime minister.

After a brief interval, the House will meet again when the Speaker will inform the House about a date for election of a new prime minister.

Only after the process of electing the new prime minister begins, the Speaker will bring the commitment proposal in the discussion at the the Parliamentary Business Advisory Committee. "I will take a decision only after taking suggestions from all the political parties in the House," a source quoted the Speaker as saying.

It is most likely that the commitment proposal will be rejected by the parliament as a majority of the parties in the parliament have already backed the new UML-led alliance.
