Addressing a special function organized by Fourth Loktantra Day Celebration Main Committee at Sainik Manch Tundikhel, the prime minister said, bringing peace process to a conclusion and rooting out vestiges of feudalism is not possible if the parties fail to collaborate. “It is the only and most important responsibility history has given to us,” he said.

Dahal said the main responsibility of the political actors at present is to establish a pro-people democracy as desired by the people.

Prime minister dismissed the allegations that the Maoist-led government is trying to establish one-party authoritarian rule in the country by demoralizing Nepal Army, judiciary and press."The main responsibility of us at present is to establish a meaningful pro-people democracy in real sense as desired by great Nepali people, where multiparty competition, periodic elections, human rights, complete press freedoms, independent judiciary, rule of law and inclusiveness are guaranteed.," said Dahal.

"If we miss even a little to formulate a new constitution consisting these things, our future generation will not forgive us,” he said. “When I realize this responsibility, I turn emotional some times.”

President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Chief Justice Kedar Prasad Giri, Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Nembang, ministers and bureaucrats were present at the function but senior leaders of other parties who led the April 2006 uprising were not present at the function.

Prime Minister appreciated the role of seven party alliance leaders who brought the Maoists to political mainstream through 12-point understanding of November 2005. The 12-point understanding paved the way for Maoists participation in the street protests and ensured success of Janaandol-II.

He said the parties need to make a political consensus of a new height to attain these goals by forgetting some bitterness surfaced during competition in the Constituent Assembly elections.

“I appeal to all at this moment to establish mutual respect, tolerance and goodwill against each other and unite for national interest,” Dahal said.

Dahal said he was continuing his efforts for making a comprehensive political understanding to resolve socio-economic problems of the country. He said he was ready for ending all the differences through dialogue.

“The political scenario developed in the recent days has reminded competitive mentality surfaced during the constituent assembly elections,” he said. “In such a situation, I sometimes fear we can fall in the game-plan of the vestiges of feudal state system and regressive and reactionary forces.”
