Pickpockets arrested while cashing stolen check

KATHMANDU, Nov 16: A police squad deployed from Metropolitan Police Range, Jawalakhel on Monday arrested two pickpockets while they were in queue to cash a stolen check soon after pickpocketing it.

KATHMANDU, Nov 16: A police squad deployed from Metropolitan Police Range, Jawalakhel on Monday arrested two pickpockets while they were in queue to cash a stolen check soon after pickpocketing it. 



The two persons allegedly involved in pickpocketing have been identified as Bishu Rokka, 24, and his younger brother Sanjiv Rokka, 19, of Karya Binayak Municipality in Lalitpur. Based on complaints registered by Keshav Fulara of Tinkune, the police had intensified search for the pickpockets. Fulara, had lost his purse while heading toward Kupondole from New Baneshwar in a jam-packed passenger bus. He realized he had been pickpocketed only after he got off the bus to pay the bus fare.



According to police, he was carrying a cheque of Rs 255,555, a 500-rupee note along with other important documents in his purse. Soon after his purse was stolen, Fulara reported about it to the Metropolitan Police Range, Jawlakhel with the details of the stolen check. 



“Based on the details provided by the victim, we coordinated with the concerned bank and deployed a team of police accordingly,” said SSP Pitambar Adhikari, chief of Metropolitan Police Sector, Lalitpur.



“We managed to arrest the pickpockets within three hours. The younger brother was lining up to cash the stolen check while the elder one was keeping an eye on the police,” said SSP Adhikari.



The Rokka brothers were arrested from Kupondole branch of Nabil Bank after police increased surveillance in the area.  



Meanwhile, the police also arrested other two pickpockets based on the information provided by the Rokka brothers. The police used their information to bust the pickpocketing network which was involved in stealing a mobile set from a Chinese national in Thasikhel.   



Police recovered the Chinese national's stolen Samsung mobile from Dhan Raj Rumba, 24, and Santosh Basyal, 26, from Basundhara and Sinamangal respectively.
