KATHMANDU, Jan 29: Nepal is observing the Martyrs’ Day today paying tributes and respects to those who sacrificed their lives for the country and its people.
Magh 16 in the Nepali lunar calendar is annually marked as the Martyrs’ Day in Nepal.

On this day, pro-democracy fighters Shukra Raj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand and Gangalal Shrestha who were sentenced to death for their demand to establish a democratic system in the country and guarantee people’s fundamental rights back in the 1940s, are remembered and respected as the four leading martyrs in the country's political history.
On the occasion, a group affiliated with the Nepali Congress (BP) marched to the memorial to pay tributes to the martyrs in the capital.
