KATHMANDU, Jan 1: A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) held on Tuesday endorsed the name of senior Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Rana will officially take charge as the Chief Justice once President Bidya Bhandari administers oath of office and secrecy to him.
Answering the questions during the parliamentary hearing on Sunday, chief justice nominee Cholendra Rana vowed to get tough against corruption and irregularities in the judiciary and promised to set up a mechanism to tackle the problem.
The parliamentary hearing on complaints received against Rana had been postponed till Tuesday after the PHC could not conclude the hearing process on Sunday. The committee staffers left the meeting citing that their working hour was over at 4 pm.
The staffers have been demanding extra payment for the overtime work.
