A team of officials from the department of drug management found the shelves of the medical stores inside the hospital premises full of such medicines. [break]
“Three stores were found to be selling expired and banned medicines. There was also a huge storage of narcotic medicines,” said Shaym Adhikari, head of the monitoring team.
Pharmacists are not authorized to sell sample drugs provided by medical companies.
“However, the malpractice was going on for long because of the collusion between medical representatives and doctors,” Adhikari said.
A huge stock of abortion and sexual arousal pills manufactured by Indian companies, not approved for sale in Nepal by the department of drug management, were found by the monitoring team.
According to Adhikari, such unauthorized pills can severely damage one´s health, especially, if they are consumed ignoring the dose prescribed by the department.
“For instance, our department allows Viagra of 50 mg while Indian companies are selling the same medicine of 100 mg which can lead to infertility in men. Similarly, overdose of abortion pills can affect fertility of women,” he said.
“The department will take necessary steps against the medical stores,” Adhikari said.
