Throughout the night, most of the people in Kathmandu Valley stayed outside their homes - in the open spaces including the large ground of Tundikhel, Singh Durbar, Khulla Manch, Constituent Assembly Building premises and the vegetables fields- all under the open sky.As the National News Agency (RSS) drove its vehicle in different parts of the Kathmandu Valley early morning today, huge number of people on the footpaths and open spaces could be seen lying on mats and curled beneath the quilts, while some were standing and stretching necks towards the vehicle wiping out sleep on their eyes.
Although the aftershocks remained milder, they could not get sleep. The recent tremor people felt was at 5:00am today.
All hospitals in the capital city are crowded with emergency patients. They are scattered on floor and even on the ground outside and receiving treatment.
As per the Home Ministry, the death toll has gone up to 1,800 across the country while thousands injured, and thousands of houses and buildings collapsed and cracked, and hundreds of roads damaged.
It is estimated that 80 persons died on the spot when a seven-story building collapsed from the bottom, while injuring in similar number at Sattale Chowk of Kapan, Kathmandu. There were the people thronged for Saturday prayers in the church.
However the biggest casualty spot in the Valley is regarded as the Dharahara, the historic tower located in the heart of the Kathmandu city. Number is yet to be ascertained.
News reports on deaths, damages, and rescue operation are being received continuously from different parts of the country.
