DHORPATAN (BAGLUNG), Oct 14: Rural roads in Baglung have remained closed since mid-June. They were disrupted by heavy rains, causing significant inconvenience for local residents. The prolonged road closures have severely affected the transportation of goods and hindered movement during the Dashain festival.

Most rural roads across all ten local levels—including Tamankhola, Nisikhola, Kathekhola, and Badigad rural municipalities—have yet to be restored.

Nisikhola rural municipality Chair Surya Bahadur Gharti said that they had planned to reopen the roads before the festival, but persistent rains thwarted those efforts. He added that while major roads in the area have been nearly restored, the remaining ones are expected to reopen within the next few days.

Badigad rural municipality Chair Gandaki Thapa Adhikari reported significant damages on roadways from the rains, particularly in wards 9 and 10, where road restoration is still awaited. Although the local government allocated Rs six million for road repairs, it was insufficient to cover all the damages.

Approach roads to Darling, Nayagaun, Malarani, Arupata, and Nigalpani remain completely disrupted, leaving residents to carry goods on foot. Locals expressed concerns over the months-long road closures. As they said, the situation forced them to face adversity while visiting their relatives for the Dashain celebrations.
