KATHMANDU, Dec 23: In view of the severe contagion of a new strain of the novel coronavirus discovered in the United Kingdom (UK), the government has asked the people arriving in Nepal from the UK between December 16 and 22 to stay at hotel quarantine for ten days.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Dr Jageshwor Gautam, said that those people are required to undergo PCR tests within seven to ten days after their entry to Nepal.

All the government labs are also directed to make necessary arrangements to provide free COVID-19 testing facilities to those arriving in between the specified period.

Nepal has also implemented travel restrictions to and from the UK owing to a highly infectious new coronavirus strain.

“Nepal shall not onboard the passengers originating from or transiting through the UK,” reads a statement released by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) on Tuesday. The entry restriction will go into effect from the midnight of 23rd December until further notice.
