“Every one of us has made contributions whether we have stayed in the cantonments or outside. So, the whole timers in the YCL should be treated on par with combatants opting for voluntary retirement,” said Pun speaking at the Reporters´ Club. [break]
He stated that the party has agreed to address the demand of YCL cadres in a package. He, however, declined to disclose the amount that YCL cadres would receive under such an arrangement. “Let´s not talk about the amount now.”
Urging the political parties not to blow the issue out of proportion, Pun also demanded that the government provide relief packages to the wounded and disabled Maoist fighters associated with YCL. He said YCL cadres have not demanded money from the state coffers but from the party.
Asked how the party would arrange funds for the whole timers, Pun said, “It is not a big deal for a big party like the UCPN (Maoist).”
Speaking at the same venue, Chairman of Tarun Dal -- sister organization of Nepali Congress (NC) -- Uday Shumsher Rana warned of protests if the YCL whole timers are doled out money from the state coffers.
“We will not only take to the streets. We will be forced to take harsh measures if they whole timers are doled out money from the state coffers,” added Rana.
Similarly, Chairman of Youth Association Nepal (YAN) -- youth organization of CPN-UML -- Mahesh Basnet maintained that the state must not dole out money to cadres of a political party.
