Patriots pick Poudel, Thapa from talent hunt

KATHMANDU, March 11: Lalitpur Patriots has selected young left-arm spinner Ariyo Poudel and batsman Bibatshu Thapa for the Everest Premier League (EPL),  despite the fourth edition of the tournament being postponed due to the impact of coronavirus.

KATHMANDU, March 11: Lalitpur Patriots has selected young left-arm spinner Ariyo Poudel and batsman Bibatshu Thapa for the Everest Premier League (EPL),  despite the fourth edition of the tournament being postponed due to the impact of coronavirus. 


Patriots had conducted its talent hunt activities on March 6 at the Ball Park Academy in Imadol, which saw participation by 231 youngsters from around the country. 


The talent hunt, which was under the supervision of coach Raju Basnyat along with Surya Tamang and Sonu Tamang, unveiled the two cricketers on Tuesday.

According to team officials, the players will join the team camp soon. 


Furthermore, left arm Aditya Subedi, medium pacers Ashim Shrestha, Jitendra Kumar Yadav, Suraj Tamang and Dinesh Adhikari have also been selected to join the 

camp and train with the Patriots.  


A total of six city-based teams were scheduled to compete in the EPL and the participating teams were required to include a player through the talent hunt program in the 15-member squad. 


Patriots coach Basnyat informed that these youngsters were selected after assessing them in the 

nets. “We selected the two best players after carefully scrutinizing their technique and potential,” he said. 


“We also wanted to nurture and groom more players and contribute to the development of Nepali cricket by picking up five additional players from the talent hunt program so that they can practice with the squad. We shall provide all facilities and ensure that they get the right guidance.”


Meanwhile, Patriots team owner Kishore Maharjan informed that both the selected players would be getting a stipend of Rs 25,000 each.
