KATHMANDU, April 15: The Patan High Court is going to conduct hearing on an appeal against Kathmandu District Court’s verdict convicting cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane in a rape case. The hearing will begin today.
The Office of the District Government Attorney filed an appeal at the Patan High Court, seeking maximum punishment for cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane in the rape case against him. While, Lamichhane has also filed an appeal at the Patan High Court asserting his innocence and challenging the verdict of the Kathmandu District Court declaring Lamicchane guilty of rape.
Both appeals will be jointly heard by the High Court. Although today's hearing is listed on the weekly cause list issued by the High Court, the details will be confirmed upon the publication of the daily cause list.
On December 29, Kathmandu District Court Judge Shishir Dhakal convicted Lamicchane in the rape case.
However, the Office of the District Government Attorney filed an appeal in the High Court Patan on March 12, saying that the district court had unjustly reduced Lamichhane’s sentence.
