Passengers stranded as highway blocked

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: Vehicular movement in and around Butwal in Rupandehi district has been disrupted after relatives of a local journalist, who was killed in road accident Wednesday night, blocked highway demanding action against the guilty and compensations for the victim´s family, said Radio Kantipur.

Thousands of passengers have been stranded at several places as locals in Buwal blocked vehicular movement along the East-West Highway and Siddhartha Highway.



Dev Bahadur Patamagar, journalist working with Butwal-based weekly Rajyasatta, succumbed to severe injuries after a truck hit the motorcycle he was traveling on at Chauraha in Butwal. Patamagar, 40, breathed his last while undergoing treatment in Lumbini Hospital.



Som Bahadur Pachabhaiya, 35, a pillion on the same motorcycle, received serious injuries in the incident. Pachabhaiya, a resident from Yamgha of Palpa district, is also undergoing treatment at the hospital, the radio said.
