Pashmina, which has been deemed as an identity-marker and pride of Nepal, is also considered an example of its peculiar style and culture. Likewise, Nepal is the first-ever country which introduced this product in the world market.

However, the Pashmina occupying a significant portion of Nepal´s export goods to global market, has not witnessed proper measures for its promotion.

It may be noted that as a reliable regular source of earning foreign currency, the Pashmina industry has generated a hefty income of two billion rupees every year.

Entrepreneurs involving in the production of Pashmina, however, are not content with the current trend of its produce despite having a glorious history in this sector.

Among the key challenges are changing pattern of global market, rise in competition and growing dependence for raw materials, they said.

According to Nepal Pashmina Industry Association, there are various problems in the promotion of production and market of Pashmina albeit its export is steadily on the rise of late.
