Parties should set aside differences for timely polls: Indian envoy

GORAKHA, Sept 19: The Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae has opined that all the political parties in Nepal should put aside their differences to hold the Constituent Assembly election on the scheduled date of November 19.



Replying to a query raised by media persons here on Thursday, Rae said that India wished that Nepal will hold the Constituent Assembly election as scheduled. He further said that though it was natural to have differences in a democracy, all the political parties should nonetheless join hands for the polls to ensure stability in the country. [break]



Stating that the people and their political leaders are aspiring for the timely polls in the country, he added that India also believes that the election is in the best interest of Nepal.

Rae was talking to media person after a function organized here to distribute pensions to the retired soldiers of the Indian Army´s Gorkha regiment.



On the controversy stemming from a quarter of Indian media that Lord Buddha was born in India, Rae clarified that there is no disagreement between the two neighbors that Gautam Budhha was born in Nepal.



He also appealed to the Nepali media not to play up the misleading information aired by some Indian televisions probably out of ignorance.

“Buddha was born in Lumbini, which is in Nepal,” the Indian ambassador said. “Even the school textbooks in India clearly mention Nepal as the birth place of Gautama Buddha.”
