BIRGUNJ, Jan 29: UCPN (Maoist)’s Parsa district convention remained tense Tuesday, after a group of disgruntled participants resorted to vandalism over the selection of representatives to the party’s general convention.

The disgruntled participants stormed the stage and smashed 15 chairs soon after the party establishment announced the names of selected representatives to the general convention, at the City Hall in Birgunj. [break]

They accused district in-charge Chhatra Bahadur Shrestha of picking his favored persons as convention representatives, snubbing ‘more dedicated’ party workers. Shrestha, his deputy Baburam Kaushik and other leaders fled the scene after the dissidents became aggressive.

“It is not that the convention has been disrupted, but we are holding talks with senior level (party officials),” Santosh Shrestha, a former office bearer, said. Earlier, the district convention had picked 25 representatives and six observers to the party general convention.
