KATHMANDU, Feb 19: Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) on Tuesday started an investigation into the complaints filed against proposed chairperson of the National Muslim Commission Samim Ansari.

In the complaint filed at the PHC, Ansari has been accused of holding fake Nepali citizenship, according to sources.

NCP lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai, who is also the member of the PHC, told Republica Online that the committee decided to collect documents from the District Administration Office Kathmandu related to verify the citizenship obtained by Ansari.

Likewise, the committee will collect the documents from the Election Commission to verify his party affiliation. Earlier, the committee had received four complaints against Ansari. The committee will also investigate into the complaints over Ansari's academic credentials.

However, no complaints were lodged against proposed chiefs of other four constitutional bodies recommended by the Constitutional Council last month.

Meanwhile, the PHC started conducting the hearing of Balananda Paudel as the chairperson of the Natural Resource on Tuesday afternoon.

On January 20, the Constitutional Council headed by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had recommended Balananda Paudel as the chairperson of the Natural Resource and Fiscal Commission; Shanta Raj Subedi as the chairperson of the National Inclusive Commission; Bishnu Kumar Chaudhary as the chairperson of the Tharu Commission; Dr. Bijaya Kumar Dutta as the chairperson of the Madheshi Commission and Samim Ansari as the chairperson of the Muslim Commission.
