BUTWAL, Dec 31: The election for the parliamentary committees under the Lumbini Province Assembly has been postponed. Despite initially scheduling the leadership selection election for the upcoming Tuesday, the province assembly issued a notice on Sunday, announcing the postponement.

The 8th meeting of the Working Arrangement Consultative Committee, held at Deukhuri in Dang under the chairmanship of Speaker Tularam Gharti last Monday, had previously set the election date for January 2. However, the notice issued by the provincial assembly states that the election has been postponed following the speaker's instructions.

Sources suggest that the elections were deferred at the request of party leaders due to conflicting claims and positions for leadership within the parties in the provincial assembly.

On July 15, the Lumbini Province Assembly elected six thematic committee members. However, the committee has been inactive as the chairman of the committee has not been elected. To date, only three committee meetings out of the six thematic committees have been held.
