KATHMANDU, June 28: Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party MP Prem Suwal has demanded that parliament seek clarification from the former prime ministers allegedly involved in the Lalita Niwas land scam.

He made this demand while speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday. Similarly, he said that it would be appropriate for the Public Accounts Committee of parliament to seek clarification from the ministers and other employees involved in the case. MP Suwal said that action should be taken against those involved in the sale of government land. He said, “Some former officials have been arrested for the illegal encroachment of 143 ropani 6 aanas government land of Lalita Niwas located in Baluwatar, worth Rs 13.76 billion. On December 21, 2021, because of the arrest warrant issued by District Court Kathmandu against 220 accused of land grab scam, the public prosecutor's office sent it back after four days saying that the investigation had not been completed. It has come to light that the gang registered and sold government land in the name of individuals from 1992 to 2010 with the involvement of former prime ministers, deputy prime ministers and ministers. It is necessary for parliament to ask the former prime ministers to clarify this matter. And the Public Accounts Committee needs to draw the attention of other former prime ministers, ministers etc.”

MP Suwal said that the government should not delay in bringing everyone involved in the land grab scam under investigation.
